Pelagic trip – February 14th, 2010

My image

A very strange sunday, over the sea in front of the Po Delta. A flock of hungry gulls followed our ship for more than three hours. We observed five species of gulls (maybe six...!!!). A brief article will be soon published telling the whole Pelagic trip, which represented the first field trial for me, my EOS 7D, and my Canon 400 f/5.6, as well.

My first Great Tit (Parus major)

My image

Today, after three hours of surveillance, after many unsuccessful shots, after some weeks of bad weather, I finally caught my first Great Tit (Parus major). Unfortunately, I had the opportunity to take just few photos and this, in particular, was among the best ones and was shot at 1/60s and ISO800 due to low light conditions.

Another robin portrait

My image

Ok. I am really fascinated by robins! In this time of the year, the contrast between winter's and robins' colors is very interesting when properly mixed by the right light. In this case, the snow did the rest...

Frozen life II

My image

All I can see today is a lot of snow, snow everywhere, and ice, a lot of ice!!! The last year, my first 'Frozen life' allowed me to appreciate the magic of ice in nature, on plants especially.

Therefore, I have to learn the right way to be as much close to them to allow me to take a decent photograph. This is one of my first 'approaches'.

On the top of the birch

My image

Just a few steps from me, on the top of the birch, a robin was singing and singing and singing... Slow movements, focusing, and shooting....and it flied away. It is always incredible how birds seem to recognize a camera only when it is targeting them!?!

Autumn fallin’

My image

Every year, since I was a child, when I see this bird arriving, it means that autumn is falling. I heard it singing, I took the camera, I put it on the tripod and I started shooting from the window, camouflaged behind the curtains. I had just less than one minute before it felt my presence and flied away.

The fugitives

My image

A real 'starling storm' was flying towards the sunset. They were on the high-tension wires and while I was trying to approach them with my camera they immediately started flying away.

Asia’s world

My image

My nephew was sleeping, not taking care about the world, because she was in her world, she was in Asia's world. The photo was shot outdoor and a little post-production was made with Photoshop to enrich the atmosphere and give the right light she deserved. She was so tranquil and peaceful that I envied her. Actually, everyone should!
